London Data Center Adding 1,400 Server Rack Cabinets
Equinix, a U.K.-based web hosting provider, is moving ahead with its data center expansion plans, with its main objective to accommodate the needs of the London International Business Exchange.
Fittingly, the data center is located in London and, after Equinix completes its expansion of 13,000 additional square feet and 1,400 server rack cabinets, it will be set at 91,000 square feet and will store 5,600 cabinets. Russell Poole, Equinix managing director, said the expansion comes as the company has recognized the area as a prime location for data centers.
“London is one of the largest and fastest growing data center markets in the world and the opening of LD5’s second phase underlines our commitment to support our customers’ growth,” Poole said in a statement. “We have been focusing our efforts on providing a global platform to meet the demand for colocation and network exchange services from the whole market. At the moment, this growth in demand is particularly strong from financial services firms and cloud service providers.”
Similar projects may emerge in the future. By 2013, total data center space needs are expected to grow 15 percent, according to Frost & Sullivan.
