How To Rack A Pod Server
Racking a server of any type can be difficult without the right information, this is no different with a POD server. A performance optimized server requires a bit more than other servers and knowing how to properly rack this type of server is the best way to avoid issues that may arise. There are three basic steps that you should take when it comes to racking a POD server:
-
Power Capabilities- generally a performance based server is going to need access to a bit stronger power source. This means that you have to insure that your rack has access to the proper voltage power center. This also means that you have to be careful of power overloads and other issues that come with servers that require a higher power supply.
-
Storage- you may also want to consider something like pod storage for your servers. Though a bare rack does offer the chance for users to customize and populate their rack with servers of their choice, it can also prove to be an ineffective way to rack servers. It may be beneficial to look into pod storage and pods to help organize their data center.
-
Strength- another issue to contend with is something that comes up with any racking operation. You should always insure that the rack you are working with is strong enough to hold the pod server that you are installing. There is nothing worse than a server rack that is not capable of supporting the weight and size of the server that you are looking to rack. Also, often pod servers are not as uniformly and typically shaped as other servers making it a bit more difficult to find server racks that fit. Consider talking to a rack builder before purchase.
Making your server rack specific and perfect for your server is a great way to ensure that the rack you have is right for the server that you have. It is always best to keep both typical and atypical issues in mind when creating your rack. It is always best to ensure that your rack is going to not only fit the server that you are working with; but the storage and data center needs that you have as well.
