New Data Center from US Signal to be Built in Detroit
West-Michigan based IT Company, US Signal, has recently announced that they are planning on developing a new data center just outside of Detroit. This facility will be their fourth located in Michigan, and the eighth in the Midwest. If all goes according to plan, the 100,000 square foot data center will open for operations in the fourth quarter of 2019.
US Signal has been rapidly growing their services where they house and maintain the IT equipment for other businesses. According to Dave Wise, the company’s executive vice president of operations they are quickly running out of space in their existing facilities, “mainly due to a very large push by a current and future customer base to get out of running their own data centers, get out of worrying about the facilities and the electric power and the up time, and a lot of the nuances of that so they can focus on their core business.”
Wise went on to explain, “Say you’re a care parts manufacturer. You want to be the best car parts manufacturer out there. You don’t want to have to focus on necessarily having to run a physical building infrastructure. In our consistent technical evolution, there are ways to reduce those cost centers.”
Another benefit that companies like US Signal can offer to non-tech businesses is the option to purchase or lease IT services and equipment on a shorter-term basis with a set monthly payment. This helps to smooth out the expenses of IT services, which in the past have fluctuated significantly.
US Signal is a growing IT services company that also operates over 14,000 miles of optic fiber throughout 10 states in and around the Midwest. Adding a new data center facility to their existing structures will help them to continue to provide best in class services to businesses throughout the Midwest where about 70% of their customers are present.
