Implications of Solar Energy for Data Centers

The importance and benefits of solar energy can no longer be underestimated. In an era marked by global warming and pollution, green energy offers alternative energy sources to address the level of CO2 emissions and other pollutants emitted into the environment. Although some point at the relatively higher cost of production of solar energy compared to energy derived from burning fossil- oil, the benefits of using clean energy far outweigh the cost in relative terms.

Data-Center-operationsTransitioning to Solar Data Center operations

Data Center Operators have increasingly explored ways and means to adapt solar energy resources for their Cloud Data Center operations. Renewable energy is the key for many new Data Center initiatives. One key issue to address in the transition to wider scale usage of Solar energy within Data Center operations remains the issue of distribution of solar energy among the different Data Center locations in light of varying weather conditions.

 GreenWare System

One key development in adaptation of solar energy for Data Centers is the discovery of GreenWare distribution system which is a software system with the ability of conducting request dispatching process aimed at maximizing the total level of the percentage of renewable energy required to power networks of Data Centers.

Other Solar Energy Initiatives

Data Center operators in and around California will also benefit from the new initiative from SunEdison one of the leading giants of Solar Energy development around the country. SunEdison will develop a new solar farm which will provide Apple with all of its energy needs, by the end of the year 2016. In addition to Apple, other beneficiaries of the new project include Equinix, a big Data center operator in the region. Also the new solar energy project by SunEdison will be integrated with California’s power grid. With this deal, Equinix boasts of having over 43% of its energy needs coming from clean energy sources.

Solar Data Center is the wave of the future. It is anticipated that many more Data centers would be going solar, as the cost of solar energy panels and production continues to drop. This is a winning situation for many Data Center operators interested in clean energy alternative to the world used to environmental degradation largely coming from the burning of Fossil-oil.
