In a recent Dell blog entry,  posted by Dell’s Candace R., she describes their Innovative PowerEdge FX2 as a work of art. “It is a server that allows users to manage their environment as either a rack or converged infrastructure through a piece by piece modular approach that allows for tailored solutions and growth as needed.” The FX2 provides users with a both modular and scalable solution which helps more efficiently manage their environment. The FX2 accelerates data access with ultra-low latency Express Flash NVMe PCIe devices paired with SanDisk DAS Cache technology on its high capacity FD332 storage blocks.

So how does it stack up against the PowerEdge R820? According to a study by Principled Technologies commissioned by Dell, the FX2 delivers 43 times more orders per minute, supports 4.5 times more database virtual machines, and provides 5 times the available drive bays compared to the R820. In fact, each FD332 storage block can support up to sixteen 2.5 inch drives, in addition to the eight internal 2.5-inch drive bays in the FC830 server. The FC380 server also supports up to four 18-cour processors and up to 3TB of memory. “Dell’s PowerEdge FX2 converged server has the ability to process more data faster, handle more VM’s, and drive unprecedented density that saves valuable space in the datacenter.” With this in mind, the FX2 allows users to consolidate virtual machines onto fewer servers to maximize storage space while at the same time boosting the system’s performance.

The FX2 meets the needs for both rack-based, and blade server infrastructures and supports form factors both. “Rack users can manage the PowerEdge FX2 like a rack, and blade users can manage it like a blade.”

RackSolutions offers “quick” dry slide rack rails for the PowerEdge FX2 to provide racking solutions where the Dell rail kit does not always work. For example, the standard Dell rail kits do not allow the server to be mounted to shallow racks. With a mounting depth range of 27.75 to 31.75 inches, the RackSolutions FX2 Quick Dry Slide Rack Rails are the perfect solution to mount the FX2 to shallow server racks. The RackSolutions rail kit is compatible with industry standard square hole racks, as well as round and threaded hole racks if the plate is removed during installation.
